ABOUT JO

Trusted Wellness Solutions

Most people’s lives follow a linear path. Jo Campton’s has been a vibrant, complex tapestry of high-stakes business, clinical excellence, and an insatiable drive to understand how the world—and the people in it—work.

From the rugged landscapes of Tasmania to the bustling waterfronts of La Rochelle and Hobart to the high-pressure corridors of Emergency Departments, Jo has spent her career navigating "the beautiful mess" of human experience.

The Spark: Art, Science, and Ambition

Jo’s affinity for healthcare and science wasn't just a choice; it was an upbringing. Raised by two nurses, her childhood was spent in the hallways of hospitals and the quiet bushland of Tasmania. Whether she was "performing autopsies" on roadkill with her father, boiling sheep heads for a grade-five science project (to the equal parts horror and fascination of her peers) or testing scientific hypotheses on the effectiveness of insulators, Jo’s early years were defined by a fearless curiosity.

This was a girl who sat by herself in class to avoid distraction, thrived on the challenges and camaraderie of being a Royal Australian Air Force Cadet, and aspired to become a doctor. An opportunity to undertake a 12-month international student exchange to La Rochelle in France saw her trajectory pivot to other strengths – communications and cultural engagement. Returning to Australia, she went on to study language, government and business at the University of Tasmania.

While Jo didn't take the traditional path to a medical degree, that "doctor-brain"—analytical, precise, and deeply empathetic—would become the foundation of everything she touched.

The Business Years: Systems, Staff, and Survival

Before she wore scrubs, Jo wore the many hats of a business owner. For 18 years, she was the engine room of a successful hospitality group on the Hobart Waterfront. As a CEO and owner/operator, Jo mastered the invisible mechanics of business: human resources, industrial relations, complex bookkeeping, and the delicate art of managing people in high-pressure environments.

Navigating the "ugly side" of family business taught her more about resilience than any textbook ever could. She learned that a business is only as strong as its systems and its transparency. Even while managing 100-hour weeks and raising a family, Jo never stopped learning—collecting diplomas in human resources and management, studying Japanese and Chinese, and even tackling a half-marathon just to prove she could.

The Pivot: Returning to the Frontlines

In 2017, Jo made a bold decision. Fed up with the stagnation of the family business, she decided to return to her roots. She didn’t just "try" nursing; she dominated it. Jo graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing with Distinction and was awarded the Faculty Medal of Achievement.

She found her home in the Emergency Department—a place where her business-honed "systems thinking" met her lifelong love of clinical science. From the Royal Hobart Hospital to the Princess Alexandra in Brisbane, Jo has thrived in the fast-paced world of emergency care, earning postgraduate qualifications and constantly pushing for better standards, better auditing, and more efficient clinical pathways.

The "Multi-Passionate" Professional

Today, Jo is a blend of clinical expertise and entrepreneurial spirit. She is a Clinical Nurse who understands a P&L statement as well as she understands a cardiac rhythm. She is a "people person" who has seen humanity at its best in the community and its most vulnerable in the ED.

Jo remains a lifelong student, currently working with nurses to continuously improve both care provision and healthcare efficiency, while quietly challenging the "tenure-based" limitations of the profession. Whether she is streamlining a clinical process or mentoring healthcare professionals, Jo brings a unique perspective: the heart of a caregiver, the mind of a scientist, and the backbone of a CEO.
